From Quiet Beginnings To Renewed Confidence At Craigieknowes Care Home

When the resident moved into Inchview at Craigieknowes Care Home in August 2025 she was adjusting to a significant change in her life following a period of health challenges. Like many people in this situation time was needed to settle and find comfort in a new environment. In the early weeks she spent much of her time in her room while she got used to her surroundings and the routines of the home.
From the outset staff focused on providing steady reassurance and a calm supportive approach. Rather than rushing engagement they allowed her the space to settle at her own pace while gently offering opportunities to become involved in daily life when she felt ready.
Over time this consistent approach began to make a difference. As she became more familiar with the home and those around her she started to spend more time outside her room and gradually took part in more of the activities on offer. This shift did not happen overnight but developed steadily through encouragement and trust building here at Craigieknowes Care Home.
A key part of this progress has been supporting her long standing interests. Staff have helped create opportunities for her to reconnect with her love of plants and flowers which has clearly been an important part of her identity. Her involvement in caring for plants and tending to flowers in the dining room has given her a sense of purpose and routine within the home.
Engagement in group life has also increased over time as she now attends activities such as 'Knit and Natter' where shared conversation and familiarity have helped her feel more at ease. Participation in arts and crafts sessions quizzes and church services has followed as her confidence has grown. These activities have supported her in building routine and encouraging more interaction with others.

The home has also supported access to experiences that bring enjoyment and stimulation. Music sessions and animal therapy have been particularly meaningful. Time spent with Harris the cat has offered comfort and helped encourage positive emotional connection. A recent visit to New Rannoch Day Centre also provided an opportunity to enjoy music and dancing which she responded to with clear enjoyment and engagement.

Staff have noticed a steady increase in social interaction and time spent in communal areas. She is now more likely to initiate conversation and has begun to form connections with other residents which reflects growing confidence and comfort in her surroundings.
Small everyday moments also reflect this change such as sharing conversation with staff enjoying humour and engaging warmly with those around her. These interactions are now a more regular part of her day.
Cecilia who is our Administrator and owner of Harris shared how meaningful it was to see her spending time with her daughter and interacting with the cat noting the positive response and enjoyment it brought.
Her experience at Inchview at Craigieknowes Care Home highlights how consistent care, patience and a person-centred approach can support someone to gradually rebuild confidence, increase social engagement and find renewed enjoyment in daily life.
